It is safe to say that Celtic have had to endure a nightmare season, one that not many would have seen coming at the beginning of the campaign. They have surrendered the Premiership title and the chance to complete a historic 10IAR with six games to spare.

As things stand, the Rangers have a 20-point lead at the top of the table and the gap could increase even further over the next few weeks.

As a result, it is hard to find any positives from this season. After all, the Hoops have underwhelmed in every department on and off the pitch. But if there is one silver lining in a sky full of dark clouds, it is the emergence of David Turnbull.

After signing from Motherwell in the summer, it took until December for him to get a run of games. He showed his class immediately though and has been undroppable since.

David Turnbull has been the main man for Celtic

In 31 appearances, Turnbull has managed to score 8 goals and provide 6 assists. Now, they are not astounding numbers. But you have to remember that he is playing in a team that has underperformed this season.

This is not a Celtic side that has gone out and scored 5 goals every other week. Naturally, players have had better statistics in previous seasons. But when you consider the circumstances, Turnbull has been very good and deserves a lot of credit for his performances.

And at the end of the day, it is not just about statistics. Over the past several months, he has been one of the best players on the pitch for the Hoops whenever the side have played.

The important thing for whoever the manager is next season will be to build the team around him. Especially with the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie expected to leave.
