Not much has gone Celtic’s way this season. There is not a lot left to say about the results or the performances over the past several months. But it is hard to deny that the Hoops have suffered their fair share of injuries as well, which have clearly had an effect on the pitch.

Two players that have spent the majority of the season on the sidelines are James Forrest and Christopher Jullien. And the club have struggled to replace either of them.

Defence has been a major worry for them through the course of this campaign in the absence of the Frenchman. While Forrest’s impact has been missed badly on the other end of the pitch.

While Jullien is expected to spend some more time on the sidelines with his knee injury, it looks like Forrest is close to returning to first-team action. As reported by Four Four Two, John Kennedy revealed that he is training very well at the moment:

"“He has been out for a long time but he has trained very well during the week.“I want to make sure he has the confidence and trust in himself after a long period of time out, that he is good to go if called upon.“It will be great to have him part of it again because we have missed him.“His numbers in terms of goals and assists and what he brings the team for the past few seasons has been terrific and we have certainly missed that.“So it is exciting to have James back in training, he has certainly shown glimpses of what he is capable of and we will see whether he is good to go.”"

Celtic have missed James Forrest badly

Although his performances over the past couple of seasons had received some criticism prior to his injury, his absence has shown that he is still clearly a very important member of this team.

Forrest suffered an ankle injury against Riga in Europa League qualification back in September of last year. Originally, he was expected to be out for around a month or so but has ended up missing the majority of the campaign.

Over the past couple of seasons, he had scored 34 goals and provided 42 assists. And even this season, he had 2 goals and an assist to his name. The Hoops have failed to replace that kind of an impact.

Hopefully, when Forrest is finally back on the pitch, he will be able to hit those heights again and lead Celtic back to the top of Scottish football.
