It’s getting close to crunch time now with the Celtic’s 10IAR dream looking very likely to soon be officially over. Match results over the weekend could decide the title or prolong the chase.

If the Rangers beat St Mirren on Saturday and Celtic don’t take 3 points away to Dundee United on Sunday, then it’s officially all over. If it remains alive then it could all be down to a deciding Glasgow Derby at Parkhead later in March.

John Kennedy, who is in interim charge at the moment, has been talking about the importance of the weekend ties and the significance behind the results.

He played things down slightly claiming that The Rangers aren’t on his mind. Instead, he wants the players to focus on the job at hand and not on what is happening elsewhere. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

"“We can’t worry about what may be going on elsewhere and how it might affect anyone else. We’ve got to think about ourselves all the time.”"

Although, the interim manager did admit that their Glasgow rivals were sitting in a very comfortable position:

"“Ultimately, Rangers are sitting in a very strong position. If we were sitting in that position we’d be comfortable and feeling confident.”"

Some Celtic players could use this as motivation

Kennedy recognises that some of his players will be hurting and as much as they always want to win for the club, they may be extra determined to get a result at the weekend:

"“It might be in the back of some people’s heads who have been here a long time.“If that’s extra motivation, great, use it for that. But, ultimately, it’ll not be a motivating factor going into the game.”"

Getting through the weekend successfully runs the risk of The Rangers securing the title on the pitch at Parkhead. Not a pleasant thought. However, the more optimistic view is that it gives one more chance to defeat them and one more chance to fight back and delay their title win for as long as possible. After all, that is the best that they can do now.

But whatever the prospects might be, the players’ minds should be focussed not on their rivals but just on winning every game ahead of them. There is nothing else they can do at the moment with the Rangers needing just 4 points from their remaining 7 games to guarantee themselves the title.
