Following the departure of Neil Lennon following a disappointing campaign, John Kennedy has been handed the interim managerial role at Celtic and will most probably remain there till the end of this campaign. But unless he is able to completely transform this team over the next few months and produce some incredible results, it is expected that the Hoops will be after a new manager in the summer.

A number of names have been linked with a Parkhead move over the past several months and a few of them are certainly very intriguing.

While most would be delighted with someone like Eddie Howe or Rafa Benitez, links with Steve Clarke have not been met with the same reception, although there is a very real possibility of that happening.

One name that has not been mentioned much though is that of former Inter Milan, Napoli, Torino and Watford manager Walter Mazzarri. But as reported by The Sunday Post, he could be interested in the role:

"“More willing to discuss the Celtic job is his countryman Walter Mazzarri, the former Watford, Napoli and Inter Milan manager.“Currently between jobs following a stint with Torino, he said he was available to listen to, and evaluate, any proposal from a club of their tradition and size.”"

Would Mazzarri be a good choice for Celtic?

Mazzarri’s greatest success came at Napoli, where he managed to win a Coppa Italia. Since then, he has not enjoyed massive success anywhere despite having stints at clubs like Inter Milan, Watford and Torino.

And although he has some top level experience, you have to wonder whether he would be the right fit at Celtic at his point of time.

While he should not probably be at the top of the Hoops’ wishlist, it is undeniable that he has managed at some huge clubs in the past and would not be a bad choice if the Hoops fail to appoint the likes of Benitez, Howe or Martinez.

Whatever may be the case, it is clear that the club needs a world class manager if they want to get back to challenging for the Scottish title next season and hopefully they will appoint one in the summer.
