After the season that Celtic have endured, they are expected to bring in a top manager in order to turn the club around as quickly as possible and hopefully challenge for the title next season, although there will be a massive overhaul in the summer.

When it comes to managers who are available at the moment, very few have a bigger reputation than that of Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniard has won a number of trophies in the past at the very top level of the game and managed the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Napoli and Valencia in the past.

Thus, this has left many questioning whether he would indeed be interested in the Parkhead job. Although the Hoops have great history on their side, it is undeniable that they cannot compete with the previously mentioned clubs when it comes to finances or in Europe, at this stage.

Benitez reportedly turned down Bournemouth, which is a boost for Celtic

As reported by the Daily Record, Benitez seems to be interested in a club that offers him a ‘project’ that will excite him. According to The Daily Mail (via The Scottish Sun), he has already turned down Bournemouth.

In that regard, there are very few projects as interesting as the one to rebuild Celtic and transform them into Scottish Champions once again as well as take them to the Champions League, a competition they have failed to qualify for three straight seasons.

With Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Kristoffer Ajer expected to leave, and Jeremie Frimpong already having left, any new manager is expected to have a formidable transfer budget to rebuild the squad for next season. Thus, could that interest Benitez into taking the job at Parkhead?

Guess only time will tell. But if the club do manage to pull it off, it will be an even bigger managerial coup than that of Brendan Rodgers.
