It is safe to say that Celtic have failed on multiple fronts throughout the course of this season, which is the reason why they lost their chance to claim a historic 10IAR at the hands of the Rangers.
And while their problems on the pitch have been well-documented, things have not been much better off it either. The club largely failed with their recruitments in the summer and only David Turnbull can be considered a hit out of the five players that were brought in.
One player who was keen on joining the Hoops last summer and probably could have done a decent job is Steven Fletcher. The Scottish striker has enjoyed a decent career down South playing for the likes of Burnley, Wolves, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday after starting out at Hibernian. He even had a stint at Marseille at one point of time.
But last summer he was without a club despite coming off a 13-goal Championship season with The Owls. And according to former teammate Tam McManus, he wanted to join the Hoops.
Celtic failed to sign Fletcher although Lennon was reportedly interested
While speaking with PLZ Soccer and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, the pundit said:
"“Steven Fletcher was desperate to join Celtic.”"

According to McManus, there was interest from the end of Neil Lennon and the Celtic players as well although the move did not go through eventually:
"“I know for a fact that the players at Celtic and Neil Lennon wanted to bring Steven Fletcher in. I know that, I know for a fact that they wanted to bring him in.”"
Now, would Fletcher have made the world of difference? Most probably not. While he has been a dependable striker over the years, he has never been prolific infront of goal. But even then, after we have seen how things have turned out for £5-million signing Albian Ajeti, he probably would have been the better signing all things considered.
At this point of time, there is very little point dwelling on these things though. It is clear that the club could have done better both on and off the pitch. But sometimes that’s just how it goes. Let’s just hope that things improve going forward and the Hoops are back to challenging for the title next season.
