It is safe to say that Celtic have endured a nightmare this season. While they got knocked out of all cup competitions at early stages, the focus would have always been the league with 10IAR on the line. Unfortunately, they failed in that conquest as well.

With just 8 games to go, the Hoops sit 18 points behind the Rangers. And although it is not over mathematically yet, Steven Gerrard’s side need a maximum of 7 more points to secure things even if Celtic win all their remaining league games this season. So it is safe to say that it is as good as over.

One change that the fans have demanded for quite some time now is the manager. And after their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ross County, Neil Lennon decided to step down from his role.

As a result, John Kennedy is now the interim boss and he has admitted that he was not aware that Lennon was going to resign. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

"“It came through late on Tuesday evening, I think Neil and the club had spoke, and to be fair I wasn’t aware it was going to happen. It all happened ever so quickly.”"

Who will be the next permanent Celtic manager?

The big question now will be regarding the next Celtic manager. The club are expected to make a permanent appointment when Dominic McKay replaces Peter Lawwell at the end of the season. Although, you cannot count out Kennedy getting the job if he does manage to get this side performing from hereon till the end of the season.

Names like Eddie Howe, Rafa Benitez, Frank Lampard and many others have been linked with the job and it is very important that the Hoops get their appointment right because a lot is depending on it.

Next season promises to be a transitional one with a number of changes coming but then the club will also be expected to challenge for the title. Thus, they will need to bring in someone with the ability to come in and immediately make an impact. Otherwise, the Rangers might lift another title.
