After the season that Celtic have had to endure, it would be easy to forget the pulling power that the club have, especially when it comes to Scottish players.

There is no hiding from the fact that the club do need to improve though and this pulling power will hopefully end up helping them in that cause. One area that they need immediate reinforcements is defence.

The club have struggled at the back all season, with Shane Duffy’s loan spell not turning out how most would have envisioned and Christopher Jullien has spent the majority of the season out of action owing to multiple injuries.

One name which has emerged as a possible solution is that of Declan Gallagher. The Motherwell defender has starred for the Scotland national team on their way to the EUROs. And as reported by the Daily Record, he is believed to be desperate for a Parkhead switch:

"“He is desperate to play for Celtic and in the current climate, he would be a brilliant signing.”"

Would Gallagher be a good signing for Celtic?

Gallagher will be out of contract at the end of the season, which means he won’t have a lack of suitors. But there is no doubt about who his first-choice would be.

As reported by the Daily Record, there has been the chance for him to move to the MLS, with the likes of Portland Timbers and New York Red Bulls interested in acquiring his services. But he has reportedly turned the opportunity down because he does not want to move his young family at this stage, which is an understandable decision.

Now the question is, could he make a move to Parkhead?

He came through the Hoops’ academy but never managed to make a first-team appearance for them. But it looks like he has always remained a supporter and would like to represent the club before he hangs up his boots.

There has been no confirmation of Celtic’s interest till now.
