There is no hiding from the fact that Celtic fans have had to endure an absolute nightmare over the last several. Yes, statistically there have been seasons in the past when they have been worse. But with what was at stake this time around, there has hardly been one which was this heart-breaking.

What is done is done though and now the focus must move towards mounting a challenge for the league next season. And it is very likely that Neil Lennon will be shown the exit door come the end of the season.

Now, many will argue that the Northern Irish manager should have been gone months ago when the performances first started to head downwards. But possibly due to the financial implications of the global pandemic and his past record of success, the club decided to keep him in charge.

There is no denying that the move has backfired as the title race was as good as over back in January and sadly it has been a walk in the park for Steven Gerrard’s side. And many are confused why the Hoops still have not brought a new manager in.

Could Celtic be preparing to bring in Steve Clarke?

There are questions about Clarke’s style of football, which involves defending and trying to squeeze out wins, which is not surprising since he has been an assistant to Jose Mourinho in the past.

There is no denying that it is effective though. He did brilliantly when at Kilmarnock and under him, Scotland has qualified for EURO 2020, their first major tournament since 1998. And does the fact that Celtic have stuck with Lennon till now suggest that they want to appoint Clarke for the role after the summer tournament?

As reported by Glasgow Times, Clarke has been one of the bookies’ favourites to take over at Parkhead next season.

Is he the right fit for Celtic at this point of time though? We know that his sides are built on a solid backline, while the Hoops’ defence can be called ‘shaky’ at best.
