Celtic have endured a nightmare season with 10IAR on the line. While they have been very disappointing in Cup competitions as well, the league was always going to be the priority. And yet, the title race is as good as over already and it is just February.

One of the biggest reasons for that has to be their transfer business in the summer. Most of the new arrivals have failed to make their mark. Perhaps, the most impactful of those has been that of Vasilis Barkas.

After Fraser Forster decided to stay at Southampton, the Greek international was signed for a transfer fee of around £4.5 million, to bring him to Parkhead from AEK Athens. It is safe to say that he is yet to justify that investment.

While he came with a decent reputation, he has failed to settle down in Scotland at all. As a result, he might even be third-choice behind Scott Bain and Conor Hazard. And according to Giannis Chorianopoulos, he might end up leaving the club on loan in the summer:

Barkas leaving Celtic on loan could be the right move for all parties involved

It is clear that Barkas has failed to adjust to life at Parkhead. But clearly he does have talent, because he has represented the Greek national team on multiple occasions and was very highly-rated back at AEK Athens.

For some reason, he is yet to show that talent in the Hoops. But that does not mean that he will never be able to do so.

It might not be the worst idea in the world to send him to a Premiership club where the pressure won’t be as high to win each and every week. That could give him the chance to develop at his rate and hopefully find his feet in Scottish football.

While Barkas has not covered himself in glory yet, it might be a bit too early to completely give up on him ever making it at Celtic.
