It is safe to say that Celtic’s recent transfer business has been all over the park. It was only last month that it had looked like the club had completed a pre-contract agreement for Preston North End’s Ben Davies only for him to move to Liverpool after it emerged that the deal with the Hoops had stalled due to certain clauses, which gave the Premier League champions to swoop in at the last minute.

Now, fans will be hoping that we don’t have to see a repeat of the situation with Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Shaw.

The 19-year-old is very highly-rated in the Championship side and has already made 15 appearances for the Owls, scoring and assisting once each. And as reported by The Scottish Sun, Neil Lennon had claimed that the club had managed to sign a pre-contract deal with the youngster:

"“We’ve completed a deal for Liam Shaw, he’s signed a pre-contract. So that’s done and we are looking ahead.”"

But the Celtic manager appeared to backtrack on his comments today when asked about Shaw’s contract situation while speaking at a pre-match press conference:

"“No, I can’t comment on that at the moment.”"

The latest development is sure to leave Celtic fans nervous

Shaw is clearly a brilliant prospect and the news of his signing had been seen as a massive positive step in the right direction by fans. Many were even considering him the long-term replacement of Kristoffer Ajer, who looks set to leave the club in the summer.

Thus, it will come as a big blow to a lot of people that a deal has not been done yet. And there will be a sense of deja vu about the entire things, especially so close to the earlier Davies deal falling through at the last possible moment.

Now, we can hope that the deal has indeed been signed and Lennon refused to comment on the situation because Shaw is still a Sheffield Wednesday player. But then, he did go out and announce it in public just a few days earlier. The entire situation is extremely confusing to be honest and hard to judge.
