The following summer will be one of change for Celtic as a number of stars are expected to leave the club and a new manager will most probably arrive at Parkhead as well. And after the season that they have endured, falling 18 points behind the Rangers in the league table, change is urgently needed. But stability is a virtue as well, and it is good to see that one of the stars is reportedly ready to commit to his future to the club.

Most of the transfer rumours have surrounded the contract situations of Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie. All of them have a little over a year left on their deals and it does look like they are headed for the exit door.

Another man who won’t have a lack of suitors if he decided to leave is Callum McGregor. The midfielder is world-class and has been linked with a switch to the Premier League multiple times in the past, with Leicester City reportedly even interested in making a £20 million offer.

Although he has a contract till 2024, if he wanted to leave, the Hoops might be forced to grant him his wish sooner or later. But that does not look to be the case as the midfielder might be preparing to see out the rest of his career at Parkhead.

McGregor looks set to be named new Celtic captain

It looks like McGregor is being lined up as the next captain of Celtic as reported by Football Insider, with Scott Brown in the twilight years of his career at 35 and his contract running out at the end of the season as well.

While Broony might end up staying at the club beyond this season, it is unlikely that he will be a regular starter for the Hoops anymore. His role will probably go to Ismaila Soro who has made massive strides over the past couple of months and with a little bit more discipline, could be a long-term successor to Brown in that position.

When it comes to taking over the armband though, there is only one name in the running and that is McGregor. At 27 years of age, he is just hitting his prime and hopefully, the club will enjoy the same success with him as captain that they did under Brown.
