Celtic are set to undergo a summer of change as a number of players are expected to head for the Parkhead exit while multiple new faces come in to replace them. And the club have already gotten a deal over the line for their first arrival of the upcoming season.

With the financial impact that the global pandemic has had on clubs all around the world, they have been forced to look mostly at players whose contracts are expiring at the end of this season. One such player is Sheffield Wednesday’s highly-rated teenager Liam Shaw.

And the Hoops have successfully managed to agree a pre-contract deal with the 19-year-old which will see him move to Parkhead at the end of the current campaign. The club will be required to pay the Championship side a £300,000 fee.

As reported by the Daily Record, Neil Lennon confirmed the news:

"“We’ve completed a deal for Liam Shaw, he’s signed a pre-contract. So, that’s done and we’re looking ahead.”"

Liam Shaw could be a hit for Celtic

When Celtic sign teenagers, they are often seen as players who will be put in the club’s academy in hopes that they can eventually develop into first-team stars. The noise around Shaw has been very different though and it sounds like he could be a part of the senior setup from the get go.

The 19-year-old has made already made 15 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday this season, scoring and assisting once each, and was believed to have a very bright future at the club. Thus, this might be a brilliant coup for the Hoops in the long-term.

Shaw has great versatility as well. While he mostly plays in central midfield, at 6′ 3″ he is also capable of playing in the heart of defence, an area which has been a major weakness for the club in recent months. Thus, his future might very well lie in that position, similar to how Ajer was transformed from a midfielder to a defender.
