It is clear that Celtic are set to undergo a massive overhaul in the summer as they aim to regain the Scottish crown once again, which they look set to lose to the Rangers this season. But in order to do so, the club will have to make a number of changes, both on and off the pitch.

Peter Lawwell is set to retire at the end of this campaign and will be replaced by Dominic McKay. And the incoming Chief Executive seems interested in appointing a director of football, a position that has grown in prominence in recent times when it comes to a club’s success.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Hoops are interested in David Webb, who has worked for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth and Huddersfield Town in the past. And he is renowned for his knowledge of the transfer market.

Now, Celtic have had their issues when it comes to recruitment in recent seasons. A number of players have been signed who have failed to make an impact at Parkhead. Naturally, someone like Webb will help the club in that respect. But there is another very interesting aspect to this deal.

Does this suggest Celtic also want Eddie Howe as their next manager?

Even if Celtic do end up appointing Webb as director of football, it does not mean that Howe would automatically join the club. Yet, it would be wrong to ignore the history between the two as well. Could the board be trying to striker up a partnership that has worked well in the past and recreate that magic?

To be very honest, Howe is one of the top managers available at the moment. While he might not have experience winning trophies at the top level, it would be a mistake to overlook the fact that he took Bournemouth from League Two to the Premier League and kept them their for five seasons. That is extraordinary.

After the season that they have endured under Neil Lennon, it is expected that he will be shown the exit door at the end of the campaign. And the club will have done very well if they have someone of the calibre of Howe sitting in the dugout next season.
