There continues to be all sorts of rumours and speculation about who could be the next Celtic manager. One mention doing the rounds over the past few days sounds like an undercooked idea and has no facts to back it up.

There are growing rumours connecting the Hoops with John Terry, the former Chelsea and England captain now acting as Assistant Manager at Aston Villa, as a potential new manager to replace Neil Lennon at some point.

Why is the story getting used today? Mainly because Terry’s current boss at Aston Villa has said he has not been approached about any job by Celtic.

Villa are due to play in Brighton this weekend and Dean Smith had been talking to The Brighton and Hove Independent:

"“Aston Villa boss Dean Smith insists that no one has approached them about offering John Terry a management job ahead of their Premier League clash at Brighton this Saturday”"

John Terry does not appear to be on his way to manage Celtic

The paper covers the point that there was possible interest in Terry from Bournemouth and also Celtic in their managerial roles. They quote Smith explaining that there is no news available for either club regarding the matter:

"“For somebody to leave a football club and go to another one then you need them to contact us, and we haven’t been contacted so…“I haven’t really spoken to JT about it, to be honest. The conversations I have had with JT is that when it suits everybody (he can leave).“I’ve always said right from the outset that John Terry came here to learn about coaching, and he’s become a very, very good assistant manager to myself. But ultimately, he’s come in to learn the trade to ultimately become a number one.“He wants to go into management but there’s got to be a right time and the right club for him, and likewise it has to be the right time for Aston Villa as well.”"

The general consensus of Celtic fans on the prospect of Terry stepping in as boss doesn’t look encouraging.

The Hoops need someone with more experience than Terry can offer as a manager. After all, he has never managed a club in the past. And although he might have been one of the best players of his generation, it does not mean that will automatically transfer into management.

This doesn’t feel like the right time to be encouraging experiments for new managers looking to start and build their expertise. It is the time for strength of character and bringing knowhow to the role. As a result, Terry does not look like a logical option at this point of time.

Having said that, there could have been a bright light for Adidas or the club shop, they might be attracted by a man who loves a full kit approach, even when not playing himself!
