Times are changing and football clubs need to change with them as well. And major changes seem to be heading Celtic’s way as well.
Peter Lawwell is set to step down from his role as a Chief Executive, which he has held for almost two decades. And while he might not be very popular among the support, it is hard to argue with the fact that the club has enjoyed great success during his stint. The man who will be replacing him, Dominic McKay, will be hoping to replicate that success.
It will not be an easy task, as the club find themselves in a tough spot at the moment. They will need to bring in a new manager next season after how badly things have turned out under Neil Lennon in recent times. And a number of high profile players are expected to follow him out of the club as well, including Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie.
If recent reports as to be believed though, then McKay does not look like a man who is afraid to make the big decisions. While speaking with Clyde 1 Superscoreboard and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, journalist Mark Guidi said:
"“One thing I think that is going to happen, and that Dom McKay is in total favour of, is the introduction of a Director of Football or Technical Director, whatever you want to call it.“That process is well underway, well underway, and there are names on the list. I think at least one person has been sounded out, if not interviewed, so that is going to happen for sure. And then the rest of the structure will slowly but surely take place.“But, all Celtic supporters and all season ticket holders that have put the money into the club will be debating whether they put money into the club next season. They need to know what is happening at their football club.”"

This is promising news for Celtic
A director of football is certainly a position that has grown in prominence in recent times. Most top clubs appear to have one, with many even having former players in the role. And these comments certain do make sense after recent rumours of the club contacting Manchester City’s Fergal Harkin.
An appointment of that magnitude can certainly go a long way in taking care of the club’s recent transfer issues, which to be honest, is one of the reasons for the position that they find themselves in this season.
Whether it happens or not is a different thing altogether, but early signs suggest that McKay is not a man who will be afraid to make the big calls and change the structure of the club up. The fans can afford to be excited about his arrival if the reports are indeed true.
