There is no doubt that there is going to be a mass overhaul at Celtic over the next few months. The club have endured a nightmare campaign and will need to ring in the changes going forward if they are to return to the pinnacle of Scottish football once again.

The month of January saw Jeremie Frimpong leave for Bayer Leverkusen on a deal believed to be worth around £10 million while Olivier Ntcham joined Marseille on loan till the end of the season with an option to buy included in the deal.

Then, we saw Hatem Abd Elhamed return to Israel a couple of days earlier after failing to settle down in Scotland and his international teammate, Nir Bitton, might be set to follow suit.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, the 29-year-old is a summer transfer target of Maccabi Tel Aviv. His contract with Celtic runs out in the summer of 2023, meaning he will have two years left at the end of this campaign. Thus, it might not be the worst time to try and get a transfer fee out of his departure, which could go a long way in the club’s rebuilding process.

Celtic should consider letting Nir Bitton leave

The Israeli international arrived at Parkhead back in 2013. But for quite some time now, he has not been a regular feature in the first-team. Instead, he has been a player who is used to fill in whenever somebody is unavailable due to his versatility.

While a player like that is very valuable to a football club, it might be time to change things up at Parkhead. A change in manager is expected in the upcoming summer with Neil Lennon likely to be shown the exit door.

When or if that happens, it is unlikely that the new manager will have Bitton in his immediate first-team plans. The transfer fee received from his departure could go a long way though in building a squad in his vision.
