Celtic fans could not have foreseen how badly their 10IAR campaign would go. The club currently find themselves 20 points behind the Rangers and have a game in hand. It is safe to say that the title race is as good as over.

Even if the Hoops win their extra game, which is far from a foregone conclusion based on their recent performances, they will need the Rangers to drop 18 points in their remaining 11 games. Just for context, they have dropped just 6 points from their first 27 games. That is also considering if Neil Lennon’s side can win all their remaining games this season.

Nobody could have imagined this is how the season would unfold. And naturally, the lion’s share of the blame has fallen on the shoulders of the manager. Many fans have already called for him to be shown the exit door although the board have surprisingly decided to stick with him.

Lennon has made it clear that he won’t walk out. But it is expected that a change will take place at the end of this campaign. Barry Ferguson seems to be of a different view though and has claimed that he won’t be surprised if the North Irishman remains in charge next season as well. Speaking on Go Radio and as reported by Herald Scotland, he said:

"“I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still the manager for next season.“That’s my honest opinion, I’m not trying to do that to annoy Celtic supporters, if you listen to Neil Lennon, everyone knows there’s going to be a full rebuild and heard Neil say he’s looking forward to that.“That tells me that Neil Lennon might be the one who is going to carry on.”"

It will be surprising if Neil Lennon remains at Celtic next season

It will be very surprising if the board decide to keep Lennon in charge for next season as well. While most would have expected him to be gone by this point already, it is not hard to see why the club has not made the change just yet.

There is very little left to play for this season and not many managers will be keen to be associated with their failed 10IAR campaign. Also, they would like to build the squad in their own vision, which is only possible next summer, when a number of players will leave the club.

Peter Lawwell will be leaving as well, with Dominic McKay replacing him. As a result, most of the big changes are expected to be made at the end of the campaign with a new board in place.
