It is safe to say that not a lot of Celtic players have covered themselves in glory this season. But even then, there are certain positions on the pitch that remain especially problematic. One of them is between the sticks.
With Fraser Forster refusing to return on loan in the summer, the club were left scrambling for a replacement. And they coughed up £4.5 million to sign Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens.
Now, to be very honest, Barkas appeared to have very decent pedigree. He had represented the Greek national side on multiple occasions and had European experience as well. He has had a tough time adjusting to Scottish football though and as a result, has been dropped from the team.
Not too long ago, it had looked like Conor Hazard was the number one choice for Neil Lennon but then, the manager decided to return to playing Scott Bain. And it is safe to say that the fans have not been impressed with his displays:

Celtic’s goalkeepers have not impressed this season
This was the direct reaction of Bain’s terrible error in the 2-1 win over Motherwell, in which he conceded a goal that should have been saved. And in the dying moments, Laxalt needed to make a goal-line clearance to make sure the Hoops took all three points.
To be honest, none of Celtic’s goalkeepers appear to be up to the mark and a new one must be signed in the upcoming summer transfer window. But even then, you would feel that it would be the best idea to give Barkas a good run of games to find his feet. And if he does, he could end up saving the club some money in the future.
Through the course of his time at Parkhead, it is clear that Bain is not someone who can be depended upon to start regularly for the Hoops. That was the very reason that Forster was brought in on loan last season.
Hopefully, Lennon will rectify his mistake in the upcoming games and give either Barkas or Hazard a chance to start between the sticks.
