There is been a lot of speculation about who the next Celtic manager is going to be. After the disastrous season that the club have endured, it is expected that Neil Lennon will be shown the exit door sooner or later.

When or if that does happen, the club must bring in someone who can quickly steady the ship and take them back to the top of the Premiership in a short span of time, preferably next season itself. As we all know, failure is not an option at Celtic. Multiple high-profile names like Eddie Howe and Rafa Benitez have been linked with the club already although their is a fear that the ultimate appointment might end up being underwhelming.

One thing is for sure, it is surprising for how long Lennon has managed to survive despite results showing no signs of improvement. Journalist Peter Martin though believes that Dermot Desmond already has the next manager picked and is waiting till the end of the season so that he can start with a clean slate.

Speaking with PLZ Soccer and as cited by This is Futbol, the journalist said:

"“I reckon that Dermot Desmond does his business quickly, agrees a deal with who he wants, he’s got that man in his mind. I think he’s already spoken to that man.“I think the person that he’s identified has possibly – possibly – looked at it and said, ‘Look, I don’t want to come in with a failed side with a number of players that I don’t want there, and I certainly don’t want to come in and have to, in effect, put fires out all the way to Rangers’ coronation to the title. That’s my view on it.”"

Celtic might have to wait till the summer for a new manager

This might very well be the case. It is not hard to see why a manager would not want to come in the middle of this season.

The league race is as good as over. The club has been knocked out of Europe and the League Cup as well. And there might not even be a Scottish Cup to play for. Thus, it is an all risk no reward kind of situation for a new manager to come in now.

Firstly, he will be associated with the failure to 10IAR, even though it is not his fault at all. Secondly, it does appear that the players have switch off as well with nothing to play for and a number of them are seeking moves away from the club.

Thus, the best time to come in would be at the end of the season when the new manager can start afresh, with a full pre-season to try and get the squad accustomed to his style of football. Also, there is the small matter of the summer transfer window.
