Things have not gone Celtic’s way this season. Not only on the pitch but off it as well, in every possible way.

While the results have been disastrous, leading them to get knocked out of Europe altogether and fall 23 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership, a large part of the blame must lie on injuries and pandemic related suspensions, which have been handed out throughout the course of the season. Some self-inflicted, some not.

And it does not look like things are going to get better anytime soon. As Ryan Christie is the latest name who will have to spend time on the sidelines after suffering an injury in their 4-0 away win against Kilmarnock.

The news was confirmed by Neil Lennon while speaking ahead of the match against Motherwell. As reported by Glasgow Live, the manager said:

"“Ryan Christie is a big doubt, he’s rolled his ankle.“We’ll give him as long as we can, but yeah he is a big doubt for tomorrow.”"

Celtic’s injury woes continue with Christie now out of action

The plastic pitch at Rugby Park has not done players any favours in the past and it did not in midweek either. Christie has rolled his ankle and while it should not keep him out for too long, it looks like he will miss the game against Motherwell.

Now, at this point of time, it is clear that the league title is gone. But Celtic still do have a lot to play for. Firstly, they must secure the second spot, otherwise their opportunities in Europe will be severely limited next season. Secondly, there is still pride to play for if not anything else. They might not be able to turn things around completely but they can sit cut the gap to a respectable number.

Let’s hope that the club can cope without Christie. To be honest, the Scot has not been in brilliant form this season, like a number of his teammates. And he could be on his way out of Parkhead in the upcoming summer transfer window with his contract running out in 2022.
