Celtic have not had the best record recently when it comes to bringing youngsters through the academy and integrating them into the first-team. And as a result, we are now witnessing them one highly-rated prospect after the other, as they seek first-team opportunities elsewhere.

It was just this week that Liverpool managed to sign youth goalkeeper Liam Hughes. Unfortunately, it was just one of many in recent memory. Liam Morrison and Barry Hepburn have moved to Bayern Munich in the past while Josh Adams chose to depart Parkhead in favour of a move to Manchester City.

And now, it looks like Cameron Harper will be joining them in going through the exit door. The US-born youngster has agreed to join MLS giants New York Red Bulls, as reported by The Sun.

Harper had made a solitary appearance for the Hoops this season but it was unlikely that he would have made many more. And clearly, he thought that a move back to the United States would provide his career with the better opportunity to progress.

Celtic need to fix their problems or they’ll continue to lose youngsters

To be very honest, it is very hard to blame this players for moving away from Parkhead. In the past, Celtic have managed to nurture incredible talents like Kieran Tierney but at this point of time, it does look like it is very difficult for an academy player to come in and establish themselves as a starter in Neil Lennon’s team.

Incredibly, while they have joined European giants like Bayern Munich and Liverpool, you feel that they will probably get more of a look in there than at Parkhead. Which is sad and unbelievable at the same time.

Another thing that has surely made their decision easier is the fact that the Hoops have not qualified for the Champions League in three straight seasons.
