It is no secret that Celtic will have to undergo a massive overhaul in the summer if they are to challenge the Rangers for the Scottish Premiership crown next season after failing to put up a fight this time around, heartbreakingly their 10IAR campaign.

They are also set to lose a good number of players over the next few months as well. Jeremie Frimpong has already left, joining Bayer Leverkusen a few days ago in a deal worth around £10 million. The likes of Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Olivier Ntcham are expected to follow suit, sooner or later.

As a result, the club will have to bring in a number of new faces through the door, in hopes that they can once again turn them into the dominant force that they were, not too long ago. One man who should not be in their plans though is Neil Lennon.

For all his achievements, as both a player and a manager, Lennon has failed to deliver 10IAR and it is surprising that he is still in the hot-seat despite falling 23 points behind the Rangers. His recent comments do suggest though that he is looking to continue in the role for the foreseeable future and is preparing for the summer rebuild. As reported by the Glasgow Times, he said:

"“I think there will be a rebuild of some capacity, players who are coming to the ends of their contracts may be looking to move on and the club may be looking to move them on.“Then obviously loan players will be going back. Whether we investigate loaning them again is a discussion for the summer but there will be changes in the summer, there is no question of that.“The only thing that concerns me is how the market is going to be. This is January and it is very quiet and you are concerned that it might be the same again in the summer because we don’t know where clubs are going to be if and when the pandemic passes, or gets better.“We don’t know how financially strong clubs are going to be or even how our own position is going to look in the summer.“In terms of rebuilding the squad that is always an exciting project to take on, to bring in new blood and give the squad that extra impetus and freshness which does good for everybody.”"

Common sense suggests Celtic will get a new manager

To be very honest, although a lot of strange things have happened over the last few months, it is still unlikely that Lennon will be at Celtic beyond this season.

It has been confirmed that Peter Lawwell will be retiring at the end of this campaign and that is probably the reason why the club have been so hesitant to change the manager. They probably want Dominic McKay to come in before a decision is taken regarding a long-term appointment while it is completely understandable if the board have found it difficult to find someone willing to take the interim role. After all, who would want to be associated with a failed 10IAR campaign?

So, it would be advisable to take Lennon’s comments with a pinch of salt. Although, when it comes to Celtic these days, you never know.
