After a slow start to January, Celtic’s transfer business seems to be slowly but surely picking up now. News broke out earlier that they had managed to agree a pre-contract deal with Preston North End defender Ben Davies although there have been conflicting reports regarding that since then and we are not completely sure where we stand on that.
This time around, it looks like they have managed to agree with 19-year-old Sheffield Wednesday star Liam Shaw as reported by Football Insider. Despite his young age, he has already featured 12 times for The Owls this season, playing both in midfield as well as in defence.
Of course, that versatility would have been a huge reason behind the Hoops trying to strike a deal with the player as soon as possible. It is to be noted, that a deal is not over the line yet.
He will be out of contract at the end of the season but the report goes on to state that Celtic will have to pay £300,000 for the Sheffield Wednesday academy product, which is not a lot considering his huge potential.

It is no secret that the squad will undergo an overhaul over the next several months. We have already seen Jeremie Frimpong leave for Bayer Leverkusen a couple of days earlier for a transfer fee of around £10 million.
Names like Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Olivier Ntcham are expected to follow suit soon as well with their contracts quickly running out. In fact, Shaw might very well serve as the replacement for the French midfielder, who has not featured much this season.
Now, these departures are expected to bring in a lot into the club in terms of transfer fees and hopefully that money will be used in the summer to replace them adequately. Until then, it is not the worst idea in the world to keep signing up these talented youngsters who are available for next to nothing due to their contracts running out.
