Celtic are closing in on a deal for Ben Davies and they’ve been linked with another Championship star who is out of contract at the end of the season. Now, we know that the board love few things more than a good bargain deal. And there’s no bargain better than players who are free agents.
Yesterday, it looked like they were closing in on a deal for the Preston North End defender. Now, it looks like they could be another Championship star to that list in the form of Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Adam Reach. The left midfielder has not been in the greatest form this season, having scored and set up three each in 28 appearances.
He does have a lot of potential though and over the past three seasons, he had scored 15 goals and provided 26 assists for the Championship. His contract will run out at the end of this campaign though and Celtic appear to be interested.
Carlton Palmer has added fuel to the fire. Speaking with Football Fancast and as cited by This is Futbol, the former Sheffield Wednesday star said:
"“Adam hasn’t really fulfilled his potential. He’s another one on big money at Wednesday and he’s out of contract at the end of the season, so I could see that being a fit for Celtic.”"

Celtic’s move for Adam Reach does make sense
The move does make sense for Celtic. They had been linked with a move for Alfie Doughty for a long time and even had made failed bids for him in the past summer transfer window.
The youngster ended up joining Stoke City this month though. And it appears that Reach could be the alternative that the Hoops have been mind for Doughty, who also is a left midfielder.
One thing that is alarming though is the club continue to be linked with free agents. While there are certainly deals to be made in that market, we all know that premium players come at a price, not for free. And while that is not to say that these players could not make an impact at Parkhead, at some point of time, Celtic will need to loosen the purse strings.
