The news of Jeremie Frimpong wanting to leave Celtic came out of the blue yesterday and the move has already been completed.

Now, the plan on the end of the Hoops probably was not to let Frimpong leave anytime in the near future. But after the form that they have showcased this season, it is hard to blame the Dutchman for leaving.

He was still a huge part of Neil Lennon’s first-team plans and had played the third-most minutes of any Celtic player this season. But it was probably the disaster performances combined with the lack of ambition that the board have showed recently, which led to him deciding that a move away from Parkhead was the best decision for his future.

Clearly, his ambitions were always to ultimately leave the Hoops for a more lucrative league. Perhaps he had not planned for it to happen this early but he would have known that the club’s recent displays would only make him less attractive to potential suitors. Thus, he ended up leaving when a good offer came in.

Jeremie Frimpong leaves Celtic for the Bundesliga giants

Bayer Leverkusen have made quite a name for themselves in recent years when it comes to nurturing young talents. And it goes without saying that Frimpong is one of the biggest raw talents in the game today.

Thus, the German side decided to go after the right-back, knowing that he probably would have been desperate to leave the club. According to reports, an initial £10 million bid was accepted, which could potentially rise to £11.5 million. Now, the club have officially confirmed that the move is complete.

Now, that is a massive profit on a player who came in just two summers ago for a fee believed to be around £300,000. But it is hard not to feel that the club could have gotten a bigger transfer fee for Frimpong if they had waited for the right moment.

This is how the cookie crumbles though. Frimpong’s time at Parkhead was fun while it lasted and we wish him all the success going forward. Goodbye and good luck.
