Celtic valued Odsonne Edouard at around £40 million not too long ago, but now they are reportedly willing to accept a much lower bid.

A number of clubs throughout Europe were looking to sign the Frenchman last summer, however, the Hoops decided to keep hold of him for 10IAR campaign. That move has come back to haunt them as Edouard has lost his form, forcing the price tag to be slashed if the club expects to get any sort of reimbursement before his contract expires in the summer of 2022.

Celtic originally signed Edouard on loan from Paris Saint Germain in August of 2017. After impressing Brendan Rodgers throughout the campaign, they opted to bring him back by signing him to a four-year deal the following summer. In total, Edouard has contributed 72 goals and 35 assists in 151 appearances.

Edouard has scored just eight goals from the general run of play this season, adding three from the penalty spot. The 23-year-old missed Celtic’s latest draw against Livingston with a knee injury but is expected to be available for their clash against Hamilton Academical on Wednesday.

Could Celtic be forced to let Edouard go for just £20 million?

It is no secret that he has been poor this season, as has the entire team. He hasn’t been very clinical and he has struggled to stay healthy. That has been a significant factor in Celtic’s season of horror and also led to his price tag to be significantly dropped.

As reported by Glasgow Live, TalkSport transfer expert Alex Crooks believes he could be available for around £20 million:

"“He’s in the last 18 months of his contract, is reluctant to sign a new deal and could be available for £20m.”"

Some were worried that he may be on his way out this month, however, it looks as if he’s agreed to stay for the remainder of the season and look for a transfer this summer.

The Hoops are likely looking at a price closer to £20 million. Anything greater than £25 million would be seen as a good deal, considering how poor he has been this season and the fact that there will be just a year left on his contract next summer.

The most important thing that the club can do with Edouard right now is to get the most out of him. Try to get him into decent goal-scoring form and raise the price a little bit. If he does manage to return to the best version of himself, Celtic may manage to squeeze £25-30 million out of an interested club this summer. Even if he doesn’t pick it up, anything under £20 million would be a tough pill to swallow considering his talent.

Keeping in mind that Edouard was on track to be Celtic’s record-breaking transfer export, it is now a waiting game to see if there are any bidders greater than the £25 million that Arsenal paid to sign Kieran Tierney.
