The Celtic rumour mill went into overdrive earlier today when news broke out that Rafa Benitez had decided to part ways with Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional. It is no secret that the Hoops are in need of a manager at the moment. And naturally, some fans started to dream of appointing the Spanish manager.
To be very honest, if the Hoops did manage to pull it off, it would be an even bigger deal than landing Brendan Rodgers.
Obviously, the club cannot afford to match the extraordinary salary that he was getting paid in China. But it is unlikely that Benitez will get the chance to manage another club with the history and fanbase that Celtic have.
Amidst all this, an image started to make the rounds on social media of a letter claiming that the Hoops had reached a deal with Benitez and it even appeared to have the signature of Peter Lawwell on it.

Fake Celtic appointment letter makes the rounds on social media
Most fans would have seen it for what it is but then there also those who might have believed that it was actually real and started celebrating. Celts Are Here have confirmed though that the letter is fake.
To be honest, documents like these rarely make it onto social media except the odd occasion when they are somehow leaked. It is also improbable that the club would have managed to reach a deal with the Spanish manager hours after he had agreed to part ways with his former side. When it sounds to good to be true, it probably is false.
This does not mean that the Hoops cannot get a deal done for Benitez in the future though. Of course, that would have to involve the former Liverpool manager taking a massive paycut. But stranger things have happened in football in the past so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
