Celtic have endured a horrid time on the pitch this season. They find themselves 20 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership table with their chances of 10IAR all but gone.

Their failures on the pitch have been a direct consequence of how poorly they have performed off it in recent times though. While there was no lack of investment in the summer transfer window, most of their signings turned out to be failures, which is perhaps the biggest reason for the club’s recent downgrade in form.

Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas cost the club close to £10 million combined but they are yet to show why the board decided to spend that kind of money on them. The loan arrival of Shane Duffy was a complete flop as well, while Diego Laxalt has been decent but not spectacular.

And it looks like things are showing no signs of improvement on the transfer front for the club as long-term target Alfie Doughty has joined Stoke City on a permanent basis, which was confirmed by their official account.

Celtic miss out on Alfie Doughty

The Hoops have been linked with Doughty for quite some time and reportedly, they even made multiple bids for them in the summer transfer window although Charlton Athletic were not willing to let him leave at that point of time.

Things have clearly changed since then though. Doughty suffered an injury and his contract with the League One club was also set to run out in the summer. As a result, they decided to let him go now instead of lose him for free a few months later.

Obviously, Celtic were hoping to get a pre-contract deal done for Doughty, which would see him move to Parkhead for free in the summer. But the left midfielder has decided to join Stoke City instead in what will be another addition to The Hoops’ list of recent transfer failures that is growing at an alarming rate.
