It is clear that some changes need to be made at Celtic. In fact, many are expected to take place over the course of the next few months.
Neil Lennon’s position as manager is still being revaluated, which will surely frustrate a large portion of the fanbase. A number of top players like Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Olivier Ntcham are also expected to leave the club next summer or perhaps even this month. There are question marks over the futures of certain members of the hierarchy as well.
As a result, journalist and Clyde 1 Superscoreboard pundit, Mark Guidi, believes that although this season is a foregone conclusion, Dermot Desmond’s decisions going forward could have a huge impact on the Hoops’ 2021/2022 campaign.
As cited by Vital Celtic, the journalist said on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard:
"“I don’t think it matters (the Livingston game). Obviously, Celtic will want to win to see that they’ll still get second place to play for which I think will be, will be fine.“Celtic will get second place just as easily as Rangers are going to win the league. but it’s about the bigger picture that the football club. I get the Dubai thing I get it still rumbling on. But for me, it’s not important anymore.“That happened two weeks ago yes it followed still there from COVID, but it’s about what’s happening with key positions at the football club from the chairman, the chief executive to the manager to the head of recruitment, to the possibly four or five key players that might want to leave. Will they want to leave in this window?“It’s massive questions that are dependent on the future of the club that depend on whether supporters want to go and buy a season ticket, whether that’s four to 500 pounds seat that you’ve got, or whether it’s a hospitality table but there’s £30million, if not more 30 million quid rating on these key decisions, not £30 million quid riding on what happens at Livingston today. £30 million quid riding on what Dermott Desmond decides to do.”"

Are Celtic guaranteed the second spot?
Celtic’s form has been very alarming recently. In 2021, they are winless, having managed a defeat and three draws. That is 9 points dropped in four games. It is not hard to see why the Rangers are running away with the league.
Now, general wisdom suggests that the Hoops should have enough in the tank to secure second spot. Even after their disastrous form this season, they sit 7 points ahead of Aberdeen and 6 points ahead of Hibernian, who have played two games more.
So, if they can can find any semblance of form, it should be good enough to finish in second spot. And while that is nowhere near good enough for a club like Celtic, after the season that they have endured, they will probably take it. But then again, it depends on if they can find some form, which is by no means a given at this point of time.
Thus, you have to feel that there is a lot riding on Desmond right now. He needs to make definitive decisions regarding the futures of Neil Lennon, Peter Lawwell, Nick Hammond and many others. And it is these decisions that could determine in what numbers the fans turn out next season, especially if it is another one that is played behind closed doors.
