Nobody would have seen the very public meltdown that Neil Lennon suffered today coming. It is probably the pressure of the situation that is finally getting to the Celtic manager as his side continues to struggle for points.
Following the club’s disastrous trip to Dubai, he was placed in isolation along with John Kennedy and thirteen first-team players after Christopher Jullien tested positive upon returning. It is quite clear that the warm weather camp should not have taken place in the middle of a global pandemic.
Yet, Lennon decided to defend the trip as well as the pictures that emerged from it. Instead, he blamed the media for spreading lies and magnifying the situation.
Michael Stewart was not having any of it though and did not agree with the Celtic manager had to say, as you would expect:
I’m absolutely sure Neil Lennon feels like he’s under attack but he is completely in the wrong to say everything that he did today, especially when another player has just tested positive. This sorry saga will continue to rumble on and hurt the club.

The Dubai trip has cost Celtic dearly
To be very honest, there is no way to defend the trip to Dubai at this point of time. Not after what has unfolded following it, which is why Lennon’s comments are even more concerning.

The Hoops have drawn both their games since returning with most of their squad out isolating. And while the Rangers did drop points against Motherwell, it most probably won’t matter in the big scheme of things. That could have been very different though if Celtic had a full squad and were putting them under pressure.
It is hard to understand what the manager was trying to achieve by hitting out at the media. Is it the fact that the pressure has finally gotten to him and he has completely lost control of the situation? Or is it him trying to create a me against the world image here before he is ultimately shown the exit door by the club?
Yes, there have been many occasions in the past when Lennon would have been justified complaining about the media. This certainly was not one of those though.
