A key figure in the Celtic hierarchy could soon be shown the exit door as Dermot Desmond prepares to ring in the changes.

So much has gone wrong for Celtic this season that it’s hard to know where to start. Amid news that Dermot Desmond has his team reviewing the set up behind the scenes, we read that a key figure in the hierarchy could be battling to save their job.

Phil MacGiollabhain has referred in several of his blogs recently to Desmond having his own team run their eye over the Parkhead set up. A task which he recently reported as complete:

"“I have been informed that his top team recently completed the review of the senior people at Celtic.”"

That could be quite worrying for several people at the club, it may be reassuring for dismayed fans calling for significant changes to be made. Football Insider report that Nick Hammond, the Hoops’ Director of Football Operations has a sizeable question mark over his role and position. They refer to him as being under major threat.

Hammond supported the club’s transfer activity over the 2019 summer, stepping in then to replace Lee Congerton, who unsurprisingly headed off to join Rodgers at Leicester City. Hewas officially announced in role in October 2019. And to be fair while there is plenty of criticism of the club leaders generally for the transfer activity, many fans were exceptionally excited by the signings in the summer 2020 window.

Retaining Odsonne Edouard and a bundle of new recruits via loan or permanent deals was all looking like great work. Until it all fell apart and there was an air of utter disappointment surrounding the recruitment of the likes of Vasilis Barkas, Shane Duffy and Albian Ajeti.

The January transfer window may well be compromised already by many factors, none the least the deep uncertainty over the future manager of the club. Hopefully some squad strengthening will prove possible and any uncertainty over retaining a role won’t affect that. If he is to be amongst the first to go, it feels likely that more will follow too in what could be a significant change at Parkhead as an era comes to a close.
