Kenny Dalglish has predicted that Dermot Desmond is set to ring in huge changes at Celtic after their spectacular failures this season.

Today was a rare instance this season when the Rangers actually dropped points in the Premiership. Normally, Celtic fans would celebrate it like a win. But after falling convincing behind their Glasgow rivals in the table, they will know that it won’t make much of a difference to the fate of the title.

As a result, it probably won’t even get a mention from most fans. At the moment, the Hoops are a much bigger worry and are in genuine danger of being caught up in a fight for the second place if they continue to drop points at an alarming rate.

Like most supporters, it is starting to look like many of the players have mentally checked out of this season as well, which might end up being a massive mistake. It is clear that changes are needed from top to bottom. And Kenny Dalglish has predicted that Dermot Desmond will ring in those changes, sooner or later.

In his column in the Sunday Post, he wrote:

"Celtic didn’t lose the Premiership title because they went to Dubai earlier this month. The two defeats to Rangers, and some of their signings in the past few months not working out as planned, are a few of the main reasons. To move forward and try to win the title back from Rangers next season, things need to be addressed inside Celtic Park, and big decisions made.I’m sure there will be meetings with key personnel to try to get to the bottom of what has gone wrong in the past few months.Things have to be identified, so that the same mistakes are not repeated."

He has backed them to make the changes required to turn this around though:

"Make no mistake, Dermot will be heavily involved in the next few days, weeks and months. He knows exactly what’s going on inside Celtic Park, and he will be at the heart of any decisions that are made. It’s clear that Celtic need to step it up to move forward – and I expect that is exactly what they will do."

To be honest, the problems might not be as deep as this season has shown. At the end of the day, this is still a talented squad of players who have severely underperformed during the course of this campaign. Things might have been very different though if the club had decided to part ways with Neil Lennon before things had got out of hand and brought in someone like Eddie Howe.

Yes, a lot of players will probably leave over the next several months and a massive rebuild will have to take place. But with the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie expected to head towards the exit door, money should not be a problem for the Hoops.

All three are expected to bring in significant money in the form of transfer fees and that should make the rebuilding process much easier. Hopefully it is the same case when it comes to the higher positions at Parkhead, where the real shots are called.
