Chris Sutton has blasted Celtic’s decision which ended up playing a huge part in extinguishing the flicker hope of that they had left of saving 10IAR.

It is not like nobody had seen it coming. The moment it came to light that Celtic were going to Dubai for warm weather training in the middle of a global pandemic, fans had feared that nothing good was going to come out of it.

Yes, in the past the trip had served them well. But these were not normal circumstances. International travel in the middle of a pandemic only increases the risk of infection and that is exactly what happened.

Christopher Jullien ended up testing positive after returning, which placed 13 first-team players, Neil Lennon and John Kennedy in isolation. Since then, they have dropped 4 points in 2 games, virtually ending an shred of hope that they were hanging on to.

What’s even more bizarre is the fact that Jullien is out of action for three to four months. So why was he even on the trip? Chris Sutton appears to be baffled by the decision like most Celtic fans. Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport, he said:

"“Whether you think that’s (Dubai trip) right or wrong, it was madness to take Christopher Jullien over there.”"

Now, Jullien cannot be blamed for catching the virus. It could have happened to anybody. It is the management who must take responsibility for not taking the decision to cancel the trip and stay back. Common sense should have prevailed and did not, which has ended up costing the Hoops.

Despite their 1-0 defeat away at Ibrox, this was a side that was looking like it had rediscovered some form in recent weeks. And they could have made a decent run in the second half of the season. A couple of bad results from the Rangers and it would have been game on once again.

Instead, Steven Gerrard’s side could collapse now and they would still walk out with the title as it is time for Celtic to forget about them and start preparing for a battle for second place. Because if the results do not improve and quickly, they might actually be in danger of being overtaken.
