The Celtic loanee could be sent back to Parkhead much earlier than expected after suffering an ill-timed season-ending injury.

It is safe to say that Celtic have endured some terrible luck this season. Multiple players have been ruled out at one point or another due to a variety of reasons.

After their ill advised trip to Dubai, they find themselves without 13 of their first-team players along with Neil Lennon and John Kennedy as Christopher Jullien ended up returning a positive test. It is safe to say that this has extinguished the last flicker of hope they had of saving the season. And things do not seem to be going much better for some of their players away on loan.

Boli Bolingoli had raised a storm in Scotland after going to Spain in the middle of the pandemic without informing the club authorities and then featuring against Kilmarnock. He was swiftly sent out on loan after that.

The fans appear to have softened their stance on the Belgian since then though, especially after they saw the entire team travel to Dubai. And it looks like Bolingoli could be back at Parkhead earlier than expected, not because the club want to play him but because he has suffered a season-ending injury.

As reported by the Daily Record, Okan Buruk confirmed the news:

"“We have three players who are almost certainly out for the season – Boli Bolingoli, Martin Skrtel and Junior Caicara. The situation is we want replacements urgently for those players.“We will also look at other areas for transfers, but replacing those three players is the priority.”"

Left-back has remained an area of concern since the departure of Kieran Tierney. Bolingoli was signed for a fee of around £3 million from Rapid Vienna, with hopes that he could fill in the void but we all know how that turned out.

While there have been some positive reviews surrounding Greg Taylor in recent times, it is important to remember that he was not a very popular figure when he starting for the Hoops on a semi-consistent basis last season and at the start of this campaign. Diego Laxalt was brought in on a season-long loan from AC Milan. And while the Uruguayan has had his moments, there are questions regarding some aspects of his game as well.

Thus, it will be interesting to see a three way battle for the left-back spot, if Celtic do manage to keep hold of Laxalt beyond this season, which some media outlets have suggested could happen with the player keen on a stay. Bolingoli has had some Champions League experience against the likes of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig while away at Istanbul Basaksehir.
