Celtic have been linked with a move for the Liverpool striker who is shining away on loan at the moment and could be available for £5 million.

Celtic appear to be on the verge of a squad rebuild in the near future after completely botching their attempt to win a historic 10th straight Scottish league title. Sitting 21 points behind the Rangers, it might be time to admit that it is too late to even hope for a turnaround anymore and if the right offer comes in, it would not be the worst idea in the world to let some players leave.

When it comes to Parkhead exits, the first name that always comes up is that of Odsonne Edouard. While Ryan Christie, Olivier Ntcham and Kristoffer Ajer appear to eyeing moves as well, the Frenchman is expected to command a much higher transfer fee than them.

In the summer, he was rated at around £35 million although that could have taken a hit after an underwhelming season. Even then, some of the biggest teams in Europe have been linked with him recently.

If Edouard does leave, the club will need to bring in a replacement. Someone who can take over the goalscoring burden, similar to what the 22-year-old did after Moussa Dembele had left for Lyon. And the Hoops appear to have identified Liverpool’s Taiwo Awoniyi as that man as reported by 90 Min.

Despite signing with the club in 2015, Awoniyi is yet to make his debut for Jurgen Klopp’s side. He is having a good season away on at Union Berlin though. They currently sit at fifth in the Bundesliga table and the Nigerian has certainly played his part.

In 14 appearances in all competitions, he has 5 goals and 3 assists to his name. And a national team call-up might not be too far away.

That will of course, make a move to Celtic much easier. He has had work permit issues which is one of the biggest reasons he has never featured for Liverpool. But a Nigerian cap could certainly help with that.

The Hoops could have a battle on their hands to sign the £5 million-rated striker though as the Rangers are also interested in his services along with a few other Premier League sides.
