The manager has blasted the Celtic loanee’s ‘out of control’ attitude and why he had to call him out publicly earlier in the season.

Celtic have signed a number of players in the last few seasons who had done very well before joining the club but failed to make any sort of impact after arriving at Parkhead. That can be put down to their failure to adjust to the rigours of Scottish football and bad scouting on the part of the Hoops. Marian Shved is one such player.

Shved had an incredible time with Ukrainian side Karpaty Lviv which convinced Celtic to bring him to Parkhead. One cannot say that certain red flags were not already there though as he had already failed once away from his homeland, when he had joined Sevilla but failed to break into their first-team.

The talent was there though and the Hoops took a chance. Sadly, it did not pay off. Currently he is on loan with Belgian side Mechelen and questions have been raised there about his attitude. Their manager Wouter Vrancken blasted him in public earlier in the season regarding his issues and has now explained why he had done so.

As reported by the Daily Record, the Mechelen boss said:

"“I put him in his place internally and publicly, because it was getting out of control.“But that did make him a mentality switch. He got harder on himself during training, and came on strongly several times, with the decisive goal against Mouscron as the highlight.”A good substitute, that was lacking this season. It’s not for everyone.“We had guys in the ranks who could do that in previous years. Shved also has that in him, although I also expect more input from my other substitutes.”"

It is good to see that Shved is at least trying to improve and put himself about. While he has just made 5 appearances for the Belgian side, he did score a winner recently and is starting to make an impact on the bench.

Again, the talent has never been in question with the Ukrainian. The winger had scored 22 goals and provided 6 assists in just 43 appearances for Karpaty Lviv. He scored for Celtic as well despite making just a couple of appearances for the club. It is just that it appears that he does not have the attitude yet to succeed at a top club.

Perhaps he is used to being a big fish in a small pond. He was easily the most talented player at Karpaty Lviv and probably enjoyed being treated as such as well. That changed when he moved to bigger clubs and may be that is what he is having a tough time adjusting to.
