The highly-rated Celtic youngster has signed a long-term contract extension with the club that will keep him at Parkhead till 2024.
Once one of the best on the planet, there have been two main complaints about Celtic’s youth development in recent years.
The first has been their reluctance to give opportunities to those looking to make the jump to the senior-level. Just have a look at the example of Karamoko Dembele. He remains one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the world but has barely been given a chance to feature in the first-team by Neil Lennon. As a result, there is a genuine danger that he could be on the verge of leaving in search of regular playing time somewhere else.
The second is their inability to keep hold of some of their brightest prospects. It was not too long that they lost Liam Morrison to Bayern Munich. If you are wanted by the European champions, there’s clearly a player in you. Unfortunately, the Hoops were not able to convince him that staying at Parkhead was the better option for his future.

It is good to see that they have signed one of their brightest young prospects in the form of Ewan Otoo to a long-term contract that will keep him at the club till 2024. It is not just Otoo though as Owen Moffat has also signed a deal of the equal length. The news was confirmed by Celtic’s official website.
Now it will be interesting to see their journey to the first-team and whether they have an easier time making that transition than those before them have had recently. Of course, this has seen the club end up missing out on some generational talent. Who can forget them letting go of Andrew Robertson because he was ‘too small’?
Whatever may have been the case in the past, let’s just hope that the two Bhoys develop over the next few years and are hopefully in the first-team picture soon if they are indeed good enough for that level.
