Celtic have released a fresh statement with the team away in Dubai during the winter break while the Scottish government put strict lockdown measures in place.
It is safe to say that Celtic’s decision to go to Dubai was a PR disaster after their 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Rangers that pretty much ended their hopes of winning the title this season, thereby also ending their hopes of 10IAR.
Pictures emerged yesterday of Neil Lennon and Scott Brown enjoying their time beside a swimming pool, which looks especially bad considering both of them have been involved with this club longer than anybody else and should be hurting more than most. But guess this is modern professional football.
Further questions have been raised about the timing of the trip though today after the Scottish government announced new lockdown measures, which are are reportedly stricter than the ones that were put in place back in March of last year. According to The Scottish Sun, they even urged the SF to look into Celtic’s Dubai trip.
Celtic did not waste time in releasing their own statement in the background of these events:
In response to the Scottish Government statement, the club has issued the following response:
— Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) January 4, 2021
‘The training camp was arranged a number of months ago & approved by all relevant footballing authorities & @scotgov through the Joint Response Group on 12th November 2020.
If the club had not received Scottish Government approval then we would not have travelled.’

The last time in March, football was suspended and The Hoops were handed the Premiership title because of their huge lead at the top of the table. Fortunately for them, it won’t be the same this time around as the government has confirmed that professional sports will remain active, for the time being at least.
Celtic resumed training today in Dubai and pictures were posted of the session. This winter camp has become a bit of a tradition over the past several years. And to be honest, it has produced results in the past. The Hoops have always returned refreshed, recharged and gone on a good run after returning from the winter break.
It might take a lot more than that this time around though. After all, they find themselves 19 points behind Steven Gerrard’s side. From this point onwards they will have to perfect while also hoping that the Rangers slip up on multiple occasions. Is it too good to be true? Very possibly.
