After refereeing the game between Celtic and Rangers, Bobby Madden posted one of the most controversial images from the clash on his social media.

Celtic’s hopes of securing 10IAR were hit with a hammer blow when they lost 1-0 against the Rangers away at Ibrox. The Hoops were clearly the much better side but it was just one of those days when everything went against them.

A number of wasted chances in the first half, allowing the Rangers to get back into the game after the break, a red card and an own goal. It was one thing after the other on Saturday.

The turning point of the game was clearly Nir Bitton’s red card though. The Israeli midfielder, who was playing as a centre-back in the absence of Christopher Jullien, took out Alfredo Morelos, leading to referee Bobby Madden producing a straight red.

Would it have been the same story if it was a Rangers player making the same tackle. We can only wonder. Madden is allegedly a former season ticket holder at Ibrox though.

After the game, he posted a collage on Instagram which included an image of him holding back Morelos from Scott Brown, which caused some controversy. The collage included many other images of him holding players back in the past as well.

The message seemed to be clear, he had done nothing which he had not done in the past. And to be honest, it is hard to blame a referee for trying to settle a situation down. It is not his job to look for opportunities to dwell out red cards, but to make sure a fair game is played.

That is where the problem arises though. The Colombian should have been sent off for his antics on the day. But somehow he still found himself on the pitch. Would it have been the same if it was a Celtic player?
