The former Celtic star decided to brilliantly bite back at Kris Boyd live on air, using the pundit’s own statement against him.
After his long career with the Rangers, it is no surprise that Kris Boyd seldom gives any credit to Celtic in his post-retirement career as a pundit. If you listened to him on most days, you’d be led to believe that the Hoops were struggling to stay up in the Premiership.
The latest of his claims came after their 3-0 win over Hamilton Academical. Now, we all know that Neil Lennon’s side have struggled badly this season and although they would be expected to win the game anyway, it was still a relief for the fans when they did.
This now means that they have managed to string together five straight wins, something that will surely give them some confidence. But Boyd decided to point out how the Rangers had scored eight goals against them.
As cited by The Celtic Star, he said:
"“Brian Rice (Hamilton Manager), to an extent, will be pleased with his team today. I saw them getting beat by eight here (at Ibrox). You look at their starting line-up and think there’s an opportunity they could get beat by high numbers again today. It wasn’t the case. They stayed in the game in the first half, Celtic totally deserved to win the game, there’s no getting away from it – but it easily could have been a five or six which would’ve had a big impact on the goal difference.”"
Clearly, this was a dig at Neil Lennon’s side for scoring ‘just’ three goals when his former side had scored eight. Thankfully, John Hartson was in the studio to clap back.

Not too long ago, Hartson was praising The Hoops for having kept three straight clean-sheets in the league when Boyd chimed in with:
"“Well two of them were against poor opposition. Hamilton and Ross County haven’t even scored 15 goals between them this season.”"
Thus, this was an easy opportunity for Hartson to get his own back and he did not miss. Just when Boyd had proudly raised the topic of the Rangers’ eight goals, the former Celtic star said:
"“It was only Hamilton though, wasn’t it?”"
You would think that Boyd would not have expected that to happen to him live on air. But then, he has just been asking for it for quite a while now. In his book, the title is already in the Rangers’ bag. Let’s just hope that we can show him otherwise when the Hoops travel to Ibrox on January 2nd.
