The Premiership star’s agent appeared to confirm that Celtic are interested in the player although they have not made an official offer yet.

With Celtic’s form this season, a number of positions have appeared to need reinforcements in January. And while it is their backline that needs the most immediate help, their problems between the posts cannot be denied either.

After Fraser Forster decided against a Parkhead return, the club signed Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens for a transfer fee of around £4.5 million. It is safe to say that that investment has not paid off yet and the Greek international has struggled to find his feet in Scottish football.

On the other hand, Scott Bain has never looked like someone who can be a regular starter for a club the size of Celtic. As a result, Conor Hazard finds himself as the number one at the moment but his position in the team will depend on how he performs over the next few weeks.

If he also proves to be an unsteady presence in goal then the club might be forced to dip into the transfer market once again and it looks like they have identified Dundee United’s Benjamin Siegrist as the man for the job.

As reported by the Daily Mail, his agent said:

"“Benjamin has had an extraordinary season and the match against Hibernian he produced a high level performance.“There is interest in him from clubs in the Bundesliga and the Dutch Eredivisie. Celtic have also scouted him several times, that is true. But today, at this moment, we have no official offer from Celtic.”"

It is not hard to see why the Hoops would want the Swiss player. He has been excellent this season since making the jump to the Premiership and has let in just 21 goals in 18 appearances, not bad numbers for a Dundee United keeper at all.

An offer has not been made yet but that could change very easily when the transfer window reopens considering how Hazard performs from now on until then.

It will be interesting to see what a move would mean for Celtic’s other keepers though. Barkas was brought in for big money not too long ago and he has to be given a more chances to prove himself. On the other hand, Hazard has looked like the best of the trio at the club right now. As a result, any move for Siegrist could easily pave the way for Bain’s exit.
