Four former Celtic goalkeepers will find themselves on Lionel Messi’s record-breaking list and can expect a gift from Budweiser.

Lionel Messi is without doubt one of the greatest players ever to step foot on a football pitch. Many will even argue that he is the greatest ever. Unfortunately, Celtic have been on the wrong end of his greatness on multiple occasions.

The Argentine has scored 8 times in just 6 appearances against the Hoops. And four different different keepers have had to pick the ball out from the back of the net on those occasions. For their efforts, they can at least expect gifts from Budweiser.

Messi recently scored his 644th goal for FC Barcelona, breaking Pele’s record of 643 goals for Santos. No other player has scored more goals for a single club.

And in a brilliant campaign, Budweiser have decided to send commemorative bottles of beer to goalkeepers for each goal that they have conceded against Messi.

This means that Dorus De Vries will receive three bottles for the hattrick that he conceded back in 2016. While both Artur Boruc and Craig Gordon will receive two each. And Fraser Forster will receive one bottle.

Forster’s one will have happy memories tied to it though as it was that game at Celtic Park in which they managed to come out with a 2-1 win against a legendary FC Barcelona side. That night has gone down in the club’s history as one of their most memorable wins in Europe and rightfully so.

We would like to congratulate Messi for breaking a record that will very possibly stand the test of time. It looks unlikely that he will extend it by much though as the Argentine looks set to walk out of FC Barcelona in the summer. And let’s just say the Parkhead gate will always be open for him in case he fancies the Glasgow weather.
