Brendan Rodgers has given his thoughts on Celtic’s incredible Quadruple Treble and the man who took over from him at Parkhead.

The Glasgow Times have reported Brendan Rodgers’ thoughts following Celtic’s momentous and historic win at the weekend in the Scottish Cup final. It was a hard fought battle but then you can’t just always cakewalk your way to history, you have to fight for and earn it.

The team had highs and lows during the game and if your nerves could take it, then perhaps it was a great Cup final. Quite enjoyable for the neutrals for whom the result didn’t matter.

Rodgers has reflected on that struggle and the ongoing pressure to win trophies at Parkhead. He therefore recognises and understands the enormity of a treble win for a club and how amazing an achievement it is to have secured four consecutive trebles. He has great respect for Neil Lennon and his leading of the team to deliver this amazing result.

Of course, Lennon was the man who took charge after Rodgers walked out on the club after deciding to take the Leicester City job. He is also the first manager in Scotland to deliver a treble at a club as both a player and a manager. Something quite remarkable without a shadow of a doubt.

Whatever the fans think or say, Lennon will appreciate the comments from Rodgers praising his work:

"“People sometimes down here think it’s easy for Celtic or Rangers, for that matter, to win games but there’s not too many teams that can go out with the pressure you have at Celtic to win every game.“To then go and win 12 consecutive trophies, it will never be done again I’m pretty sure.”“It just really typifies the mentality of the team and I was so happy that they did it. And obviously, of course, for Neil because to be the first manager in Scotland to have won a treble both as a player and a manager, that puts him in that unique bracket.”"

There is certainly always pressure and the team did it the hard way. But the pressure would have just magnified around Lennon as he prepared for the match and then watched their lead crumble in the second half.

Given their recent run of form, it was very possible that the Hoops would have gone on to lose the game from a winning position, which they very nearly did before Conor Hazard’s penalty shootout heroics.

Now the focus must turn towards the Premiership though and the historic 10IAR which is in danger of slipping through their fingers if the team continue to underperform. A win over Ross County, much needed after their shock League Cup win recently to eliminate the Hoops in the second round itself, remains a must for this week.
