Chris Sutton has told Neil Lennon to drop three Celtic stars when they take on Hearts in the Scottish Cup final on Sunday.

Celtic fans would not be too confident going into Sunday’s Scottish Cup final. On paper, they should be beating Hearts every time but unfortunately, the Hoops’ disastrous form this season means that the unexpected can very well happen. In fact, it has already happened a few times. Just think about their second round elimination from the Scottish League Cup at the hands of St Johnstone.

They are coming into the game on the back of two wins though. First, they managed to beat Lille in their final Europa League game of this campaign as they finished at the bottom of their group. Then they walked out with a 2-0 win against Kilmarnock. And although these are just two good results, it will give them some confidence.

The biggest reason for this recent upturn in results is without doubt the introduction of the likes of David Turnbull, Ismaila Soro and Conor Hazard. All three have done very well since coming into the team. But Neil Lennon has hinted that he could go back to ‘Old Guard’ on Sunday in a show of loyalty.

He has been warned not to do so by former teammate Chris Sutton though. He named three players the Celtic manager must drop on Sunday, in his column in the Daily Record:

"“Scott Brown has led Celtic to 11 successive trophies.“Tom Rogic is a Hampden specialist who started the run of Trebles by bagging the winner in the 2017 showpiece against Aberdeen.“Ryan Christie scored a magnificent goal in the semi-final and has been an integral part of the club’s recent runof silverware.“But, if I were Neil Lennon, I wouldn’t pick any of the trio to start tomorrow’s William Hill Scottish Cup Final against Hearts.”"

Out of those three, Tom Rogic is the one who has surprisingly done the best. The Australian looked on the verge of leaving the club just a few months ago but is now very much back in the thick of things.

The same cannot be said about Scott Brown and Ryan Christie. Neither of them have performed to their standards lately. And as a result, it only makes sense to leave them on the bench solely on merit. Yes, Broony is a club legend but football is a game about the present. And in the present, Soro appears to be bringing more to the table. It’s the same with Turnbull and Christie.

Lennon’s comments from earlier will have Celtic fans concerned though. After all, the manager is known for his stubbornness and it would not be out of character at all if he actually does end up dropping two of his best players in recent weeks in favour of Brown and Christie.
