Celtic fans did not let the opportunity slip after the Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup by St Mirren last night.
Celtic have not enjoyed a great start to the season. As a result, they find themselves behind the Rangers in the Premiership and out of the Europa League as well as the League Cup.
It is safe to say that the mood has not been great around Parkhead for the past several months. But there was cause for some enthusiasm last night as their Glasgow rivals got knocked out of the Scottish League Cup at hands of St Mirren after an unexpected 3-2 defeat.
This ended their 27 match unbeaten streak this season. But more importantly, it extends their quest to win a trophy. It was believed that they had a free run at the League Cup after The Hoops’ earlier elimination but it looks like they cracked under the pressure once again.
Kris Boyd has been one of the biggest supporters of Steven Gerrard’s side in the media and has waxed lyrical about their performances all season long. Thus, Celtic fans were not going to let the opportunity slip last night to get one back:
Kris Boyd won't be smiling tonight. You love to see it.

Of course, this is not the time for The Hoops to spend too much time celebrating their opponents’ failures. After all, they have a world of worries on their own hands, with a Scottish Cup final coming up on Sunday as well. But it was a nice change to the course of things last night after what have been a bleak couple of months for the reigning champions.
No league has ever been won in December but that is what it has sounded like for a few months now if you hear the noise coming out of Ibrox. Admittedly, Celtic have been way below the mark this season. But things can change very quickly in football.
Come the end of the season, last night might prove to be turning point for Neil Lennon’s team. Who knows? Things have gone their way in the last two games and if they win on Sunday as well, they will have momentum on their side. And if they can then topple the Rangers at Ibrox at the start of the year, the title race will be well and truly on. Keep the faith.
