The Rangers have continued to complain about Celtic being handed the Premiership title last season when it became the remaining games couldn’t be played.

When the Scottish Premiership season was called to an early end in the summer the Rangers were furious at Celtic being declared champions. At this week’s virtual Annual General Meeting for the Ibrox club, they were still banging on about it loud and clear. The only surprise is that they’d been quiet for a while in between.

As reported by the Daily Record their Managing Director was still ‘seething’, the situation had left a ‘sour taste in the mouth’ and he wanted other clubs to back them and force the Scottish Premier Football League into making changes. No mention of any dossiers this time round though.

Way back when football was suspended last season there was a whole range of discussions, votes, falling outs between some clubs and with the SPFL in places as the executives tried to find a sensible solution regarding how to end the season.

At one point the Rangers were trying everything possible to get the season declared ‘null and void’ and even called for the suspension of Neil Doncaster and Rod McKenzie. The crux of the matter of course was that Celtic were clear leaders on a points per match played basis and it looked impossible to play the remaining games at that time. But awarding the Hoops their 9IAR title was never going to go down well on the other side of Glasgow.

Let it be, you might think. Focus on the current season perhaps. Not a chance. At the Rangers AGM this week, Robertson spoke out:

"“We were all disappointed in the way the 2019/20 season was curtailed early, and the fashion in which that happened left a really sour taste in the mouth to be honest.“It has been well-publicised what our views on that were. We, as a club, were keen to try and get the games played. We would much rather have got the games played to a conclusion as they did in England and in most other European countries.“However, that path was never really made available to us. I felt some clubs accepted that path too quickly and if we had tried a bit harder, maybe we could have got there.“The governance of the game in Scotland has to be better than we are getting at the moment and it has to be better than it was in the summer.“It could be significantly better the way the game can be run.“We were very vocal about it in the summer and we feel exactly the same way about it now as we did then, and we are still chipping away at it.“What I feel, and we hear from many other clubs who have expressed their dissatisfaction with the way things are done, is they need to believe in the courage of their convictions and come out and support and be a bit more vocal if they really want to see change.”"

Maybe things have altered since the summer when clubs voted against the Rangers in resolutions to make changes. There wasn’t any different or new evidence in the dossier that they served up in the summer.

Although Robertson insisted their thinking hasn’t changed, you’d have to wonder if the Rangers view would change if the SPFL had to be called to a halt now with them leading the way.
