Celtic fans were not too happy with the club announcing that they are going to continue to back Neil Lennon to turn things around.
By now, it is pretty clear that the majority of Celtic fans want Neil Lennon gone from the club. We are not even halfway through the season and the Hoops are already out of Europe as well as the League Cup. They also find themselves sitting 13 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership table in a season when they are challenging for a historic 10IAR.
Having won just two of their last twelve games, the Hoops are in the middle of their worst run of form in recent memory. Yet, the board have continued to publicly show their support for Lennon.
One would have thought that their 1-1 draw against St Johnstone in the league would have been the straw that finally broke the camel’s back. After all, it has gotten to a point where people are already questioning whether the board have left it too late.
The board are still going to stick with Lennon as manager though. They released an official statement on the club website on Monday that said:
"In light of the ongoing speculation regarding the position of our football manager, Neil Lennon, the Board of Celtic Football Club wishes to make clear its continuing support for Neil and his backroom team. The Board recognises and understands the importance of winning the league championship this season and that, as Neil himself has made clear, recent performances and results have been disappointing. The Board is committed to delivering success for Celtic supporters. The Board has carefully considered the current circumstances and the challenges that we are faced with, not least the pressure on the management and players to deliver the tenth championship in a row that is so important to us all. Equally important is to continue to operate according to our Club’s values. The Board has come to the conclusion that our collective objective is best served by continuing to support Neil and his team as they seek solutions for those challenges."
Clearly, the fans were not happy and let it be known on Twitter:
This is of no surprise to me .. Knew they’d stick by Lenny until at least the New Year. Basically threw him under the bus !

Neil Lennon is becoming more and more culpable as the days go on. His legacy is eroding.

It is clear that there needs to be change if the club is to have the remote possibility of turning this around. It has been clear for quite some time now. This run extends back to mid-October. And yet the board have decided to stick with Lennon.
Many fans would have expected that the manager would have himself walked out by now. There is no doubt that he is a Celtic legend with the sheer number of trophies he has won for the club over the years. Unfortunately, football is a game that focuses on the ‘now’. And the risk of him being remembered as the man who failed to win 10IAR is growing with every passing game.
At this point of time though, it looks like it is pointless to expect any change before the new year, even if the results don’t improve. We have hoped that the board take a decision over the past several weeks but they have not done it. And it is unlikely that they will change their minds anytime soon.
