Even Chris Sutton gives up on Neil Lennon as Celtic keep sinking

As Celtic continue to stumble through their 10IAR campaign, Chris Sutton finally appears to have turned on former teammate Neil Lennon.

It has been clear for quite some time now that change is needed at Celtic. Today’s 1-1 draw against St. Johnstone means that the Hoops have won just 2 of their last 12 games. A sad state of things in arguably their most important season since 1967.

Everything that could have gone wrong, has gone wrong and at this point of time of time, it is a miracle that Neil Lennon is still the manager. Yes, he is a club legend and has achieved brilliant success both as a player and as a manager for the Hoops. But there can no doubt now that the board need to show him the exit door if they want to have any chance of somehow rescuing the season.

One man who has backed Lennon for all this while is his former teammate Chris Sutton. But over the past couple of weeks, it has felt like even he has given up on the situation. And after today’s draw, the former Celtic striker tweeted out demanding change:

The big question now is what the board will decide to do. They need to take definitive action immediately. But then, we have been saying that for several weeks now. Who is to say that there won’t be the same statement about positive meetings and them having complete faith in Lennon to turn this around?

After how bad the team have been the last few months, it is hard to see how that can happen to be brutally honest. Both the players and the manager look completely out of ideas right now. And a new boss needs to come in who will bring in fresh ones with him.

Let’s be clear, Neil Lennon deserves all the respect in the world for what he has achieved at Parkhead through the course of his career. But all good things must come to an end. And the longer that the board keep pushing the inevitable, the more bitter this ending will be.
