Things are not looking good for the Celtic loanee as his manager has blasted his attitude issues and described him as ‘arrogant’.
Sometimes it’s obvious why a player isn’t breaking into the Celtic team or getting opportunities. For others it’s more of a mystery and fans can’t understand why they don’t feature.
A news story now reveals more on how a Celtic player has been behaving while out on loan. His manager’s outburst is quite revealing and probably explains why the player is out on loan rather than playing for the Hoops in the first place.
Wouter Vrancken is the manager at Mechelen in Belgium. He and his club were delighted to secure Marian Shved from Celtic on a year long loan in the summer. Probably just as delighted as the Hoops were to sign him a couple of years ago when he had been doing so well in a great season at FC Karpaty Lviv.
But Shved disappeared from sight as far as the first team was concerned. He was Brendan Rodgers’ last signing, although comments made by the former manager at the time suggested he wasn’t involved much in buying the player.
Since then he has made just 3 appearances for the Hoops. That led to many comments and questions from fans who struggled to understand why the flying Ukrainian winger wasn’t playing more. Maybe we now have some answers.
Mechelen boss Vrancken has let rip at Shved today as reported by the Daily Record. In a similar scenario to Celtic, Shved has only made 3 substitute appearances there as well. And the manager has clearly had enough of the player and doesn’t pull any punches when revealing his mix of anger and frustration when asked about Shved:
"“I don’t feel like I should be wasting my time on him anymore.“The players and staff have done everything they can to include Shved in the squad, but he puts himself above the group.“He regularly arrives late and even pretends not to be here.“The staff and the players have talked to him several times. I spoke to him in private, I also addressed him in the group. But we haven’t got a response.“Well, it stops now. If he wants to be a loner, he can. Go play billiards for the rest of his life or something.“He doesn’t want to belong in this group where everyone jumps through fires for each other.“He is introverted, but his arrogance makes it worse.”"

Ouch! It’s hard to believe this kind of an attitude suddenly appeared when the player moved to Belgium. Although there were stories about a mix of language issues and not settling in Scotland, not much else was revealed about why he wasn’t playing at Celtic.
He did also struggle during a prior move to Seville. His home club FC Karpaty Lviv, where he came through the club’s youth system, signing at the age of 7, is where he had most success. Away from his home surroundings, he has always struggled to make an impact.
This description of his behaviour could very well be the reason why he was not given many chances by Lennon. It would seem likely he’ll be heading back to Parkhead, or somewhere else soon.
There are still a couple of years left on Shved’s contract with the Hoops. This report won’t help in finding the player another club. The only hope might be that it kick starts a more sensible attitude and he is able to bring his true talent to the pitch. Because we all know he has loads of that.
